Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.

* With time running before South Carolina’s gubernatorial primary, Rep. Nancy Mace hoped to get Donald Trump’s endorsement. She didn’t get it: On Friday, the president threw his support behind Republican Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, who played a prominent role backing Trump’s efforts to overturn his 2020 defeat.

Primary Day in South Carolina is just eight days away, and Evette also enjoys the support of the state’s incumbent Republican governor, Henry McMaster.

Also Friday, Trump weighed in on two other crowded GOP gubernatorial primaries, backing Rep. Randy Feenstra in Iowa ahead of this week’s crowded contest, and former state Sen. Mike Mazzei in Oklahoma, where voters will head to the polls in two weeks.

* In Louisiana, Republican state legislators did exactly what they were expected to do on Friday, approving a newly gerrymandered map to erase one of the state’s two majority-Black districts that are currently represented by Democrats.
