Illegal immigrant police recruit issued firearm despite deportation order
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (Fox News) — ICE arrests New Orleans Police Department recruit, Larry Temah, from Cameroon who possessed a firearm despite an active deportation order.
Arrest and Background
ICE apprehended 46-year-old Larry Temah just before his police academy graduation for violating federal law on firearm possession by illegal aliens. Temah legally entered the U.S. in 2015 but faced deportation due to fraud in his permanent residency application.
Immigration Status and Response
Temah failed to appear in immigration court, leading to his removal order. ICE emphasized his lack of valid work authorization and criticized the NOPD for hiring him. The Department of Homeland Security condemned the issuance of a firearm to an illegal alien.
Disputed Claims
The NOPD refuted ICE’s allegations, stating they verified Temah’s eligibility through E-Verify and were unaware of any ICE detainer. They denied knowingly breaking the law and clarified their role in detainer decisions.

ICE’s stance on sanctuary cities like New Orleans was also highlighted, accusing them of prioritizing illegal aliens over American citizens. The NOPD maintained their compliance with legal procedures and distanced themselves from the controversy.
