Toledo Speedway proudly honors the legacy of Mildred Marcum, a cornerstone of American short track racing and a driving force behind motorsports in Northwest Ohio. Beginning her career in the 1940s, Mildred dedicated more than six decades to the sport, shaping racing from behind the scenes through tireless leadership and service.

In 1953, Mildred and her husband John Marcum founded the Midwest Association of Race Cars in Toledo, Ohio; an organization that would evolve into today’s ARCA Menards Series. While John focused on competition and officiating, Mildred managed the financial and administrative operations, overseeing ticketing, concessions, bookkeeping, and race-day logistics that kept events running smoothly.

Mildred played a vital role in the promotion and operation of both Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways, helping establish it as one of the region’s premier racing facilities. Well into her 80s, she could still be found working race nights at the ticket office, welcoming fans and ensuring the success of each event with the same dedication she showed throughout her career.
