(CNBC): China plans to boost defense spending by 7%, the slowest increase since 2021, amid rising global tensions and advanced military capabilities on display.
China is set to increase its defense spending by 7% this year, marking the slowest growth since 2021. This comes as geopolitical tensions rise and advanced combat capabilities are prioritized for modernization. The country showcased long-range missiles during a recent military parade. China’s National People’s Congress will set development goals and approve the budget for the year. Last year, China proposed a defense budget of 1.78 trillion yuan, accounting for nearly 44% of Asia’s defense spending. The U.S. remains ahead in military spending, budgeting $849.77 billion in 2025.
