"And you’re like, ‘I don’t really feel like I belong here.’ And that kind of feeling never went away for me," Muniz explained. "I always kind of felt like a bit of an outsider. And so, I didn’t really do the typical child actor thing where I was like, ‘Oh, I’m not famous anymore. I need to go do something crazy to get back in the spotlight.’"
He continued, "I was like, ‘No, I’m not famous anymore. Cool. I’m just going to go do something totally different.’ And I don’t know if it was common sense or if it was just me not really wanting to be in that world anymore, but I didn’t ever want to be a part of that whole child actor thing where it’s like, ‘Oh, I need to go crazy to get back in the spotlight.’"

Muniz previously revealed that he doesn’t remember filming "Malcolm In The Middle" due to suffering from multiple mini-strokes and nine concussions.
"I have had 15 concussions, and I have had nine concussions on ‘Malcolm,’" he told USA Today last year. "I don’t know how to say this, but my most recent one was bad. It was the worst of them all. The first time, I didn’t think much of it. I didn’t really think anything of it. I thought, ‘I’m fine. I’m fine.’"
He continued, "But I had a second one a year and a half after that, and then that one was bad. But then I had a third one just a few years ago, and that one was the worst of them all."
Despite the health struggles, Muniz said he wouldn’t trade his time on the show for anything.
"I loved that show. I loved the people that I worked with," he said. "I loved the character Malcolm. And so, I have to say that even though I don’t remember it, I’m so appreciative of it because I think it’s made me the person that I am today."
