Alabama inches toward erasing majority-Black district
Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* It’s Primary Day in Nebraska and West Virginia, and arguably the day’s most closely watched contest will be the weird Democratic U.S. Senate primary in the Cornhusker State.
* The U.S. Supreme Court gave a green light to Alabama Republicans who are eager to redo their congressional map and erase a majority-Black district. It was, predictably, a 6-3 ruling.
* Speaking of the high court, Virginia Democrats appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court this week, asking the justices to overturn last week’s stunning state Supreme Court ruling that overturned the will of the voters on a redistricting plan. Given the U.S. Supreme Court’s unsubtle political leanings, few expect this case to go well for the plaintiffs.
