A proposed plan to curtail the number of African immigrants who enter the United States is the latest step in the Trump administration’s racist immigration agenda. The Associated Press reported Monday that the State Department is planning to limit the number of U.S. embassies in African nations where people can apply for visas.

Per the AP:

The almost 50 U.S. embassies and consulates that are processing visa applications will be reduced to 20 in the coming weeks, according to three U.S. officials and an internal memo obtained by The Associated Press. There is not yet a set date for the change, but it is expected in June, according to the officials, who were not authorized to comment to the media and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The Associated Press reported that under the changes, “a citizen of a non-hub country will have to travel to one of the 20 approved sites” to obtain a visa, “which could pose formidable travel challenges and costs.” That’s in addition to the travel ban the U.S. has imposed on some countries, travel restrictions due to Ebola and the $15,000 bond required to apply for a visa. It shouldn’t be hard to see how this change could further undermine attempts by Africans, from the Blackest continent on earth, to enter the U.S.
