Riley Green’s “Think As You Drunk”: Makin’ Tracks Interview
Riley Green made history by reaching No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart with consecutive solo-written songs in 2025, a feat last achieved by Taylor Swift in 2011 and 2012. Green was influenced by Toby Keith, who wrote many of his songs alone. Green’s latest single, "Think as You Drunk," showcases this influence without directly borrowing from Keith’s work. The song was born during a creative session with Erik Dylan and draws inspiration from a vintage MAS*H quote. The recording process involved a guitar/vocal work tape and collaboration with producer Dann Huff. Green’s homage to Keith was well-received by the country legend’s team. Green planned to donate part of the proceeds to Keith’s foundation, but Keith’s estate suggested adding a line from his performance on the "As Good as I Once Was" recording. Despite challenges with the key and rhythm, the song "Think as You Drunk" debuted on the country music charts, with Green finding it rewarding to have Keith’s voice on his record.
