Nicolle Wallace slams Trump’s ‘shocking and galling’ attacks on the Smithsonian
MS NOW’s Nicolle Wallace tore into President Donald Trump over what she said was his latest attempt to “whitewash and rewrite America’s story,” slamming a new report from the administration that accused leadership at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History of “extreme political activism.”
In the 162-page document, released on July 4, the White House Domestic Policy Council said the world-renowned institution had been captured by “a radical, activist ideology that is fundamentally opposed to telling the noble, honest story of the great country we know and love,” and said the museum’s leadership “cannot be trusted to tell America’s story honestly and in a way that is inspiring, unifying, and worthy of our great republic.”
Wallace called the accusations against the Smithsonian “shocking and galling” and argued that the museum has always put forward an “unbiased, nonpartisan, honest account of our history.”
“Naturally, that represents a threat to an aspiring dictator,” she added.
As the “Deadline: White House” host explained, the report is part of a wider effort by the Trump administration to exert control over America’s cultural institutions, the most high-profile of which is his “takeover” of the Kennedy Center.
