Chair of the Senate Budget Committee, Graham was a powerful figure in conservative South Carolina politics and close ally of President Donald Trump. “Lindsey Graham is irreplaceable,” said South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster in a statement. “The fiercest of fighters for South Carolina and America — and a loyal and steadfast friend.”
He was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994, and elected to the U.S. Senate in 2002. Graham was seeking a fifth Senate term in November.
This is a developing story.
