Someone stole a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency air monitor from the MC Tank Transport site at 1266 Progress Ave. in North Toledo — the site of last week’s chemical leak.

According to a Toledo Police Department crime log entry, the device — valued at $2,000 — was reported stolen at 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The U.S. EPA is listed as the victim. 13abc reported the theft occurred Sunday night around 8:42 p.m.

The monitor is one of several set up across the metro area after the chemical leak that began Oct. 20, and it feeds the air-quality picture residents rely on.

Neither the U.S. EPA, nor the City of Toledo, nor MC Tank Transport responded to requests for information about the theft on Monday.

The leak of glycidyl methacrylate from the MC Tank terminal forced evacuations in North Toledo starting Oct. 20; evacuation orders have since been lifted, but EPA air monitoring continues in the community.
