Miami, Florida (Fox News) — A U.S. Marine declared dead after falling overboard during operations in the Caribbean. Lance Cpl. Chukwuemeka E. Oforah, 21, of Florida, was lost at sea and pronounced deceased following a 72-hour search and rescue operation.

Military Background

Oforah, an infantry rifleman, enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 2023. He graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, in February 2024, completed the USMC’s School of Infantry at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment. At the time of the incident, he was deployed with Battalion Landing Team 3/6, 22nd MEU aboard the USS Iwo Jima.
