Morning Briefing: Toledo Chemical Leak Latest, Lakers’ Opening-Night Rout & Martin Garrix Goes Pop
Good morning, Toledo. Here’s what you need to know to start your Thursday, October 22.
Chemical leak: half-mile evacuation zone still in effect as tank keeps venting
The half-mile evacuation zone around the MC Tank Transport terminal on Progress Ave. is still in effect this morning, and the 5,500-gallon tank of glycidyl methacrylate is still venting. The city says that as long as material remains in the tank, there is an explosion risk. The 3-mile shelter-in-place order was lifted around 5 PM Wednesday, and the evacuation zone was cut from 1 mile to a half-mile. Toledo Fire & Rescue and hazmat crews are monitoring the tank.
If you’re heading back home: cross-ventilate your home, wipe down surfaces, discard uncovered food and wash exposed clothing. Questions? Call 419-213-4100. Toledo Public Schools and Washington Local Schools were closed Wednesday — families should check district channels for Thursday plans. Stellantis’ North Toledo Assembly Complex evacuated Tuesday night; first and second shifts were canceled Wednesday.
