ChatGPT Can Now See Your Chrome Tabs — Plus 13 New Voices Are Coming
Your chatbot can now see your browser. Let that sink in.
OpenAI has released a Chrome extension upgrade that lets ChatGPT Chrome tabs integration view your open browser tabs when you tag Chrome in a prompt. Ask it to compare content across your open tabs, and it’ll do the reading for you. It also works with Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi from the desktop app.
The strategic pivot
The move is a strategic pivot after OpenAI quietly retired the standalone Atlas browser. Instead of asking you to switch browsers, ChatGPT now meets you where you already are — inside Chrome.
The privacy angle
Here’s the thing to sit with: for ChatGPT to compare your tabs, it has to see your tabs. That’s incredibly useful — and a real privacy trade-off. What you’re browsing, from work docs to personal tabs, becomes visible to the chatbot when you invoke it. Worth thinking about before you tag Chrome in your next prompt.
13 new voices are coming too
Alongside the tab upgrade, OpenAI announced GPT-Live-1.1 for ChatGPT voice: 13 new voices and improved performance across French, German, Hindi, Mexican Spanish, Korean, and Japanese — rolling out to all users. There’s also a new Quip mini model.

Bottom line: The ChatGPT Chrome tabs upgrade is here — convenient, powerful, and a little unnerving. Your move.
