FORT MYERS, Fla. — President Donald Trump held a midterm campaign rally Friday at Florida Gulf Coast University’s Alico Arena, stumping for Florida Republican candidates — including U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, the party’s nominee for governor — 11 days before the Nov. 3 general election, according to the Fort Myers News-Press live updates.

Air Force One landed at Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) about 1:34 p.m. ET, and Trump traveled by motorcade to the FGCU campus, where Gov. Ron DeSantis greeted him on the tarmac. Doors opened at 10:30 a.m., and the 4,633-seat arena — including 300 standing-room spots — filled to capacity.

Donalds, the Republican nominee for governor, addressed his hometown crowd. He faces Democrat David Jolly in a race the live blog described as having tightened ahead of Election Day. Donalds introduced his wife, Erika Donalds, and focused his remarks on Florida’s economy, acknowledging the high cost of daily living for residents. He said his plan would lower insurance premiums in the state by 20% and noted endorsements from Trump, U.S. Sen. Rick Scott and Gov. DeSantis. Jolly, his Democratic opponent, did not appear at the rally.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. spoke before Trump, praising Florida’s pandemic-era policies and outlining his chronic-disease agenda. His remarks were interrupted when an older attendee collapsed in the seating area. Dr. Mehmet Oz, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services administrator who had just finished speaking, rushed into the stands to help. Kennedy paused to ask the crowd for a prayer for the attendee before concluding his speech. The person’s condition was not immediately available, the live blog reported.

Other speakers included U.S. Sens. Rick Scott and Ashley Moody, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson, RNC Chairman Joe Gruters, Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power, and Jim Schwartzel, the Republican candidate seeking to replace Donalds in Florida’s 19th Congressional District.

Outside the arena, both pro-Trump and anti-Trump crowds gathered along FGCU Lake Parkway, with the live blog describing competing chants and signs from supporters and protesters as attendees streamed toward the venue. The FAA issued temporary airspace restrictions around RSW from 12:15 to 5:15 p.m. Friday.

The venue was notably smaller than Trump’s past Fort Myers rallies, which were held at Hertz Arena, with a capacity of about 8,500. With mandatory early voting in Florida beginning Saturday, the Fort Myers stop is part of Trump’s final-week barnstorm across the country; after Florida he was expected to head to Michigan and Georgia, both with high-profile Senate races on the ballot.
