Toledo residents will soon be able to flag an overflowing garbage can with a quick phone scan.

Echo, a scan-to-report system developed with help from University of Toledo students, is set to expand across the city by the end of the year.

How it works: QR codes let residents scan and report overflowing cans, getting the problem into the city’s hands faster than a phone call or a form.

Why it matters: This is a small, practical fix to a visible everyday frustration — cleaner streets and faster pickups, built by local students for their own city.

Context: The expansion was covered by WTOL 11 and highlighted by UToledo News on Oct. 27, 2026.
