Shares rose 0.5% to a record $342.96, pushing the valuation to $5.005 trillion. Apple had crossed $5 trillion six times during intraday trading but had never closed above it — until now.
And it happened on a rough day for tech: the Nasdaq fell 1.9%, with Apple’s stock proving a safe haven. Shares are up 26% this year, nearly double the S&P 500’s 13% gain.
The Big Test: iPhone Duo
The real test comes Friday, Oct. 16, when preorders open for the iPhone Duo — Apple’s first foldable smartphone. Starting at $1,999, it’s the most expensive iPhone ever, with release set for Oct. 23.
