TOLEDO — The Toledo Rockets survived a wild one at the Glass Bowl on Saturday, holding off Western Michigan 45-38 after the Broncos stormed back from a 31-14 halftime deficit.
Toledo jumped out fast, leading 14-0 after the first quarter and 31-14 at the break. Western Michigan answered with 21 third-quarter points to make it a 38-35 game heading into the fourth, but the Rockets closed it out 7-3 in the final frame.
The win moves Toledo to 6-2 on the season. In the closing minutes, CJ Miller’s runs helped salt the game away before quarterback John Alan Richter took a knee to run out the clock.
Both teams came into Saturday at 5-2, and the shootout lived up to it — 83 combined points in a back-and-forth MAC battle in front of the home crowd.
