Marvel’s newest mutant just turned Shane Gillis’ own joke into a punchline — on his former stage.

Inde Navarrette, the 25-year-old breakout star of the supernatural horror hit “Obsession,” made her Saturday Night Live hosting debut on the Oct. 31 Halloween episode, and she used her opening monologue to flip a controversial joke Gillis made on that very stage three weeks earlier.

Navarrette has been preparing to play Rogue in Marvel’s first X-Men movie — she joined the cast this past summer — and told the Studio 8H audience that getting into superhero shape has been no joke.

“I know it’s really important for Marvel that you get really fit, so I’ve been working out a lot,” she said. “Every morning, I put on my little whore outfit, and I hit the gym.”

The line landed to howls from the audience. It was a direct callback to Gillis’ Oct. 10 hosting appearance — his third time hosting the show — when he sparked a backlash with a bit about women at the gym.

“I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t know women just dress like whores now,” Gillis said at the time. “Have you seen the shorts? And don’t look!” He went on to complain about not being allowed to stare, particularly when women might be filming themselves for social media.

The backlash was swift. “Schitt’s Creek” star and creator Dan Levy posted an Instagram video denouncing the bit: “Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores misogynists. There’s a difference there.” Former SNL cast member Ego Nwodim posted a gym selfie captioned “Whore reporting for duty.” SNL UK’s Weekend Update anchor Ania Magliano mocked the joke on air. That same Gillis episode also saw the comedian accidentally drop the f-bomb live during a “Green Eggs and Ham” sketch.

Navarrette’s callback divided viewers. Some praised the punchline — “absolutely cooked Gillis there,” one viewer wrote — while others questioned whether the line just reinforced his joke rather than deflating it.

Elsewhere in her monologue, Navarrette leaned into the Halloween theme, insisting she was nothing like her “Obsession” character Nikki — and pointed to her boyfriend, musician Nick Aiello, in the audience.

The episode marked the first new SNL after a two-week hiatus, with Gracie Abrams as musical guest.
