Rockets Announce Four-Game Series With Marshall
Â
Toledo and Marshall have a long history, dating back to 1938, but have not played since 2003. Toledo leads the all-time series, 22-18-1. Marshall, a member of the Sun Belt Conference, played in the Mid-American Conference from 1954 to 1969, and again from 1997 to 2004. The Rockets and the Thundering Herd faced off in the MAC Championship Game four times, with Marshall winning at home in 1997, 1998 and 2002, and the Rockets gaining the crown in the Glass Bowl in 2001.
“We are very excited to add this four-game series with Marshall,” Blair said. “Toledo and Marshall are two storied college football brands. We share a history of memorable games with incredible atmospheres and packed stadiums in the Glass Bowl and in Huntington. I have heard many stories about the exciting MAC Championship Games played between Toledo and Marshall in the 1990s and early 2000s. Renewing this series honors that tradition while creating exciting future matchups for our student-athletes, our alumni, and our fans.
“Lastly, this has been a priority for me for a number of years after hearing from our fan base and I’m incredibly grateful for Marshall AD Gerald Harrison agreeing to make it happen for both of our fan bases.”
Toledo opens the 2026 season at Michigan State on Sept. 5 and then plays three consecutive home games, beginning with Central Connecticut State on Sept. 12, followed by contests vs. Temple on Sept. 19 and San Diego State on Sept. 26. This will be the first time the Rockets have had seven home contests on their schedule since 2018 and just the third time overall.

Toledo’s 2026 Mid-American Conference schedule will be announced at a later date.
