Jennifer Lawrence Confirms She’s Back as Katniss in ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’
Katniss Everdeen is so back. Jennifer Lawrence confirmed on Wednesday’s episode of Call Her Daddy that she reunites with Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson in Sunrise on the Reaping — her first time playing Katniss in more than a decade.
Lawrence said stepping back into the role was "so emotional." "Josh and I didn’t walk to the bathroom without our arms around each other," she told host Alex Cooper. "It was so beautiful." And Harrelson, in classic fashion, "came through the window of my hotel room, uninvited."
The prequel, which hits theaters and IMAX on Nov. 20 — just three weeks away — tells the story of a young Haymitch Abernathy’s 50th Hunger Games (the Second Quarter Quell), 24 years before the original films. Joseph Zada plays young Haymitch, with Ralph Fiennes as President Snow. Lawrence also dropped a fun one for the fandom: she’s always been Team Gale. "Even after he killed my sister," she joked.
EW had confirmed the returns back in December, but this is the first time Lawrence said it herself on camera. Millennials, dust off your mockingjay pins — opening weekend is three weeks out. For the latest from Panem, follow @TheHungerGames on X.
