‘Goonies 2’ Is ‘Never Gonna Happen,’ Says Martha Plimpton
Hey you guys — the news is not good.
Martha Plimpton, forever Stef in 1985’s The Goonies, just crushed a generation of sequel dreams. In an exclusive with Page Six published Saturday, the 55-year-old said a follow-up to the beloved adventure is "never gonna happen."
"I hear something, and then nothing… It’s nothing," Plimpton said while promoting Season 2 of FX’s The Lowdown.
Now, to be fair: this isn’t a formal announcement — it’s one Goonie’s verdict. But her skepticism caps a long trail of dashed hopes. Warner Bros. confirmed in February 2025 that The Goonies 2 was in the works with Steven Spielberg producing, and writer Potsy Ponciroli turned in a "well-received" first draft (per a Venice 2025 update). Ke Huy Quan then told ComicBook.com a second draft had been submitted — while Josh Brolin already voiced doubts back in August 2025, saying Spielberg "hasn’t approved anything yet."
So, never say die? Plimpton just might have.
