The Today show just turned Halloween into a full-blown NBC history lesson — and it kind of slayed.
For its annual Halloween extravaganza on Friday, the morning show celebrated NBC’s 100th anniversary by transforming its hosts into the network’s most iconic characters and personalities, People reports.
The highlights: Savannah Guthrie and Jenna Bush Hager showed up as Rachel and Phoebe from Friends; Al Roker channeled Eddie Murphy’s iconic SNL character Gumby with an angry monologue; and the whole thing kicked off with a black-and-white sketch imagining NBC’s very first broadcast, with Guthrie and Craig Melvin as old-fashioned TV anchors. Guthrie then traded the vintage look for an NBC page’s uniform, welcoming tourists to 30 Rock — Melvin as “Greg from North Carolina,” Roker as “Bob from Oswego, New York,” Carson Daly as “Kyle from Boise” and Jenna as “Tammi from Texas.”
The show also paid tribute to itself, marking the Today show’s 75th anniversary season, and the costume lineup included I Dream of Jeannie and The Tonight Show nods. Surprise guests Martha Stewart and 30 Rock‘s Jack McBrayer showed up for the celebration.
