Nearly 40 years after Fatal Attraction (1987) turned them into screen icons, Michael Douglas, 82, and Glenn Close, 79, reunited on Friday’s episode of The Graham Norton Show — and Douglas dropped a casting confession nobody saw coming.

“Everybody thought that Glenn was not right for the part, and so we moved on, and her agent called and said, ‘You don’t understand, Glenn will audition,'” Douglas told Norton. “She came in, and I ask anyone to see this tape, and she blew us away. We had never been so wrong in our lives… We were idiots.”

Close earned an Oscar nomination for playing Alex Forrest — and she also recalled fighting the film’s famous reshot ending. Test audiences hated Alex surviving, and Close flatly refused to reshoot: “I literally said, ‘I’m not gonna do it!'” She was eventually worn down, and as she put it, “Alex became the most hated woman in America.”

Douglas marked the reunion on Instagram with a photo of Close planting a peck on his cheek, captioned: “One helluva reunion with my Fatal Attraction co-star and dear friend @glennclose… What a treat to be together again while celebrating my book One Helluva Ride!” The appearance was part of Douglas’s book tour for his memoir.
