Jennifer Lopez Just Wrote Her First Song as an Empty Nester — and It’s a Dance Track About Grief
J.Lo’s next chapter starts at an empty kitchen table. Jennifer Lopez told Variety on Wednesday that becoming an empty nester this fall sent her back to the recording studio — and the first result is “Proof of Love,” a brand-new song written after her 18-year-old twins, Max and Emme, left for college.
“I can’t wait for you to hear my new song, ‘PROOF OF LOVE,'” she posted alongside the announcement, dressed for the occasion in thigh-high boots.
Here’s the twist: it’s a happy dance song about pain and grief. Lopez described the track as a look at the “duality” of loving her kids while feeling the sting of them growing up — “One of them is pain and grief when someone’s gone… That’s really proof of love.”
The song lands as a bonus track on the first-ever vinyl release of her 2011 album LOVE?, arriving in November in three collectible editions: a 1LP standard, a 2LP deluxe on translucent royal-blue vinyl with five extra album tracks, and a Bilt-exclusive cherry-red pressing tied to November’s Rent Day promotion. Pre-orders opened Oct. 28.
The rollout keeps rolling into Thanksgiving: her concert film The JLo Show: Live in Vegas airs Nov. 26 on CBS and streams on Paramount+ — and she told Variety the studio sessions have more new songs coming. A new era, kicked off by heartbreak on a dance floor.
