TOLEDO, Ohio — A CSX locomotive and two rail cars derailed Friday afternoon in North Toledo, shutting down East Manhattan Boulevard in both directions. The road is expected to stay closed for two to three days while crews clear the tracks.

Toledo police and fire crews were called shortly after 4 p.m. Friday to the 3000 block of East Manhattan Boulevard, near Detwiler Ditch, after the train left the tracks. The train’s conductor got off safely, a Toledo Fire & Rescue spokesperson told 13abc (WTVG). No one was hurt, and a Toledo police officer at the scene told 13abc no chemicals were spilled.

The locomotive was carrying about 4,000 gallons of diesel fuel, but its tanks appear intact, Toledo Fire & Rescue Assistant Chief John Kaminski said, according to WTOL 11.

CSX estimates East Manhattan Boulevard will remain closed between Suder and New York avenues for two to three days, and the closure also affects Wallace Boulevard, according to WTOL 11. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes while crews work to remove the locomotive and cars from the tracks.

The cause of the derailment has not been released.
