TOLEDO — Four Flock automated license-plate-reader cameras were tampered with in Lucas County over Halloween weekend, and the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

The timing is impossible to ignore: TODAY, on Election Day, Toledo voters are deciding the fate of the Flock camera program itself at the ballot box.

Supporters point to crimes the cameras have helped solve across the county. Critics counter that the surveillance network raises serious privacy concerns. ToledoBuzz covered the brewing fight over the program in our Oct. 28 report ahead of the vote.

The Halloween-weekend tampering raises fresh questions on both fronts — how vulnerable the cameras are, and how much the county relies on them.
