The giant-cookie boom is cracking: Crumbl has closed 57 stores in 2026, with August 2026 sales down 70% from August 2024 and foot traffic down about 32% year over year, according to Restaurant Business reporting cited by the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The chain grew to more than 1,000 stores on pandemic-era TikTok virality and a rotating weekly menu, passing $1 billion in system sales by 2023 — then ran into fading novelty, a flood of lookalike cookie chains, tighter household budgets, and $5 cookies that are easy to cut.

The two local shops are still listed — 6710 W Central Ave., Toledo, and 10411 Fremont Pike, Perrysburg — while 57 stores nationally have shut and operators warn more may close. Ohio has 48 Crumbl locations, the fourth-highest state total.

Experts quoted say the cookie bubble is bursting the way frozen-yogurt and cupcake booms did, and that surviving brands will need smaller portions, more transparency, and a reason beyond shock value.
