It’s just past midnight in Toledo, and the newsroom is closing for the night. Before we sign off, here’s a look back at the biggest stories we covered on Thursday, October 15 — from a devastating school shooting in Oregon to big wins for Toledo’s economy.

The Lead: Deadly Oregon School Shooting

Our top story tonight is a heartbreaking one: a 16-year-old opened fire Thursday afternoon at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, killing three students — ages 5, 8, and 11 — and a teacher, and critically wounding a 7-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher. The teen gunman was shot and killed by an armed community member who chased him into the school, authorities said. Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz briefed reporters Thursday evening; Bend-La Pine schools are closed Friday with crisis counseling available, and a vigil gathered at Drake Park. Investigators are still probing a motive, with updates expected Friday. Read our full updated story here.
