TOLEDO, Ohio — A man was injured early Monday morning in West Toledo after his vehicle suddenly accelerated out of a hospital parking lot, jumped curbs and plowed into another vehicle sitting in a pizza shop driveway, according to Toledo police.

Police say the vehicle left the hospital lot under hard acceleration, crossed over curbs and struck the second vehicle in the driveway of the pizza shop. The driver of the accelerating vehicle was taken to a hospital; the extent of his injuries was not immediately disclosed. NewsLocker’s Toledo desk carried the report, sourced from The Blade.

No charges were reported and no cause was given Monday. Toledo police are investigating whether a mechanical failure or a medical emergency behind the wheel triggered the sudden acceleration.

The bizarre crash adds to a violent weekend on Toledo roads, coming just days after the Halloween-night head-on collision at Hill Avenue and Wenz Road that killed three people — a story ToledoBuzz covered earlier this week.
