If you’ve been white-knuckling every fill-up this month, here’s a little good news at the pump: Ohio’s average gas price fell $0.15 this week to $4.22 a gallon, according to AAA data compiled by Stacker (published Oct 30). That’s a 3.4% weekly drop — and Ohio led the nation in weekly declines.

Today’s AAA read (Oct 31) shows the slide continuing: the statewide average is now $4.17 a gallon for regular, versus $2.87 a year ago. Here’s the honest framing: the drop is real, but you’re still paying $1.40 more per gallon than last year — a 49.6% jump. Filling a 15-gallon tank now costs you roughly $21 more than it did in October 2025.

What pushed prices down? Falling wholesale prices, refinery maintenance easing and softer demand all helped. And diesel is finally backing off, too: $6.45 a gallon today, down from the $6.82 all-time record set Sept 22 — still near record territory, so every trucker and farmer you know is still feeling it.

Will the relief last? Analysts say the fundamentals point to more softening, but this is Halloween-season Ohio — demand and refinery quirks can swing the pump price overnight. Per AAA data, the direction this week is at least pointing the right way.
