My Chemical Romance just gave the Black Parade’s 20th anniversary the cinematic treatment — and they brought some very famous friends along.
The band released Prelude to the End on Oct. 29, a roughly seven-minute animated short directed by Lauren Tsai of UNREAL INC., merging her The Dying World universe with “The End,” the opening track from The Black Parade. The voice cast is stacked: Tsai as Astrid, Phoebe Bridgers as her sister, Billie Eilish as her friend, Hideo Kojima as the Teacher, and John C. McGinley as the Dean.
The short is screening before the band’s final two Hollywood Bowl shows — Oct. 30 and tonight, Oct. 31 — closing the U.S. leg of their five-night Long Live The Black Parade residency before the tour heads to Asia. The Black Parade (20th Anniversary) edition also dropped with six bonus tracks, including live recordings from the band’s 2007 hometown show at Maxwell’s in Hoboken.
Twenty years on, the Parade marches on.
