FAIRFIELD, Calif. — A 31-year-old woman who family members told police was pregnant was shot and killed inside a packed Spirit Halloween store at the Solano Town Center on Friday night, in a Halloween-eve attack that left six others wounded. The gunman remains on the run.

Constance Hages, 31, was shot around 8:30 p.m. Friday inside the store and died of her injuries. Family members told police she was pregnant at the time, according to a New York Post report.

Six others were wounded: a 16-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man and a 32-year-old man remain hospitalized in critical condition; a 23-year-old man is in critical but stable condition; a 19-year-old man and a 43-year-old man were treated for gunshot wounds and released Saturday.

A lone gunman fled before officers arrived and remains on the run after an overnight manhunt. Fairfield police say preliminary evidence indicates it was a “targeted incident.”

The FBI Sacramento Evidence Response Team deployed federal agents to help process the crime scene, alongside mutual aid from Suisun City police and the California Highway Patrol.

The attack unfolded inside the temporary pop-up retailer in the mall’s former Best Buy space, crowded with families and teens shopping for costumes on Halloween eve. Fifteen-year-old Jocelyn Lopez Tabares was in the checkout line with her sister and recorded cellphone footage from the floor; witnesses Milena Davis and Javier Espinoza describe shoppers forcing open a rear security gate to escape into the mall corridor.

Solano Town Center canceled its scheduled Saturday “Mall-O-Ween” trick-or-treating event, though the mall reopened for regular business hours.

Anyone with video footage, photos, or witness accounts is asked to contact Fairfield police at 707-428-7600 or email 1030mall@fairfield.ca.gov.
