Nearly 50 years after Pink Floyd snarled its way through one of rock’s most ferocious albums, Animals is getting the anniversary treatment — and it comes with something fans have never heard before.

The band announced Thursday that Animals 50 will arrive in CD, vinyl, and digital formats, headlined by the previously unheard Roger Waters song “Young Nicholas Jon,” according to Paste Magazine and Rolling Stone.

The reissue also includes the official release of the band’s 1977 Oakland concert, plus alternate versions of “Sheep” and “Dogs” — two of the album’s towering centerpieces.

David Gilmour summed up the era in a statement: “The mood in music was changing in ’77… Punk music was hitting everything… It’s quite an aggressive, stripped-back album.”

Released in January 1977, Animals — with its flying-pig Battersea Power Station cover — has only grown in stature, and the new set arrives four years after 2022’s Animals 2018 Remix. For a generation that discovered the band through their parents’ record collections, this is the one to grab.
