65 New Homes for Toledo’s Chronically Homeless Break Ground Downtown — Opening Late 2027
TOLEDO — Cherry Street Mission and Lucas Metropolitan Housing broke ground Friday on Mission Point Toledo, a $22 million, four-story permanent supportive housing complex at Monroe and 14th streets in downtown Toledo.
The building will have 65 one-bedroom apartments for people experiencing chronic homelessness and people living with mental illness. It is expected to open toward the end of 2027.
Mission Point is a partnership between Cherry Street Mission and Lucas Metropolitan Housing (Lucas Housing Services Corporation), which are co-developers and co-owners of the building. Lucas Metropolitan Housing will provide Project Based Rental Assistance, and Cherry Street Mission will provide wraparound services for tenants. Rents will be income-dependent, supported by federal housing subsidies, and tenants will be identified through coordinated entry by the local Continuum of Care.
The Ohio Housing Finance Agency approved financing for the project in May 2025, with about $15 million in low-income housing tax credit equity supporting the development. State Rep. Erika White celebrated $1 million in state funding for Mission Point in October 2026.
The building will sit next to Cherry Street Mission’s Life Revitalization Center, which provides meals, career training and other services.
The project comes as Toledo faces a sharp rise in its unsheltered population, with 2026 data showing a significant increase in people living without shelter. It follows Tent City 2026 and the Habitat South Toledo delay already covered on ToledoBuzz.
