The public will not be able to access the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department’s longtime offices at 635 N. Erie St. from Monday, Nov. 9 through Friday, Nov. 13, while the department moves to its new building at 1933 Spielbusch Ave.

The department intends to start up regular activities at the new Spielbusch Avenue site on Monday, Nov. 16, according to WBNOWQCT.

One office stays open during the move

There is one important exception to the closure. The Vital Statistics office at 635 N. Erie St. will stay open on Nov. 9, 10 and 12, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., with entry only through the street-level double doors.

Anyone who needs Vital Statistics services during the moving week should plan around those three days and those hours, and use the street-level double doors to enter the Erie Street building.

A new home on Spielbusch Avenue

The new building at 1933 Spielbusch Ave. is the former Diocese of Toledo property. The health board announced the purchase in May 2025, calling the Erie Street building “long outdated” and citing significant infrastructure problems there.

The move marks the end of the department’s longtime tenure at 635 N. Erie St. and the start of its next chapter at the Spielbusch Avenue site, where it intends to start up regular activities on Nov. 16.

Residents who had planned to visit the Erie Street offices between Nov. 9 and Nov. 13 should wait until the new location opens, or, for Vital Statistics business, use the limited hours listed above. More background on the purchase is available in the health department’s May 22, 2025 press release.
