‘Wild Horse Nine’ Is in Theaters Today — Martin McDonagh’s Dark Comedy Is Sitting at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes
Martin McDonagh is back — and critics are loving it. His new dark comedy Wild Horse Nine opens in theaters today, Friday, Nov. 6, and it’s already sitting at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. Even better for moviegoers: John Malkovich, who stars in the film, took home Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival for his performance.
Written and directed by McDonagh — the filmmaker behind In Bruges, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Banshees of Inisherin — Wild Horse Nine is set in 1973, just before the Chilean coup. Malkovich and Sam Rockwell play two longtime CIA agents dispatched to Easter Island, joined by Steve Buscemi, Parker Posey and Tom Waits. The film is rated R and runs about 1 hour and 58 minutes.
The early reviews are strong. USA Today gave the film 3 out of 4 stars, while We Are Movie Geeks went all in with a perfect 4 out of 4. That 95% Rotten Tomatoes score puts it among the best-reviewed wide releases of the fall.
One thing to plan around: Wild Horse Nine is in theaters only for now. It’s not on streaming yet, so if you want to see it this weekend, you’ll need to catch it on the big screen — exactly the kind of dark, twisty McDonagh comedy that plays best with a crowd. Check local showtimes before you head out, and don’t wait too long — buzzy fall releases like this one can disappear faster than you’d think.
Searchlight Pictures is releasing the film in U.S. theaters today. Grab your tickets, pick your theater, and make it your weekend movie — this is one of the fall’s most talked-about new releases, and Toledo audiences can see it starting today.
