She was asleep on her couch when she woke up to flames in her bedroom. Within minutes, a south Toledo woman and her cats were standing outside the Arbor Landings apartments on Brookview Drive, watching firefighters battle the blaze that had taken over her home.

Toledo firefighters were called to the complex just before 1 a.m. Monday, and crews had the fire contained to the single apartment, according to WTOL-TV. The fire started in the bedroom, per 13abc’s coverage of the scene — but the woman and her cats made it out safely, and no injuries were reported.

The apartment is now uninhabitable. The woman told reporters she’ll be staying with family. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Flames she could smell before she saw them — and she still made sure her cats were coming with her. That’s the kind of story worth sharing today.
