Monroe County deputies are investigating after a body was found on a Lake Erie beach in LaSalle Township on Thursday afternoon.

Deputies were dispatched shortly before 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, to a report of a deceased individual at the public beach access at the dead end of S. Otter Creek Road, according to The Monroe News.

The death was not a drowning or water-related incident, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said. The identity of the person found will not be released “out of respect to the decedent’s family,” the sheriff’s office said.

“There is no danger to the public stemming from this event,” the sheriff’s office said in its statement.

The LaSalle Township Fire Department, Monroe Community Ambulance, and the sheriff’s Victim Services Unit responded to the scene, and the Detective Bureau assisted with the investigation.

LaSalle Township sits along Lake Erie in Monroe County, just north of the Ohio state line and a short drive from Toledo. ToledoBuzz will update this story if the sheriff’s office releases further information.
