An official inquest report obtained by Page Six and published on Nov. 5 lists Breaking Bad actor RJ Mitte’s manner of death as suicide by hanging, weeks after the 34-year-old was found dead at his home in Texas.

Mitte was found dead at his home in Brownsville, Texas, and pronounced dead at 1:32 p.m. on Oct. 12, 2026, according to the report. An autopsy and toxicology testing were requested, but the results were not included in the records obtained by Page Six. Mitte’s representative had previously confirmed in October that the actor died by suicide.

The inquest finding is a new development in the story of Mitte’s death, which ToledoBuzz previously reported on Oct. 15. The report provides the first official determination of the manner of death.

Mitte played Walter “Flynn” White Jr., the son of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White, in all five seasons of Breaking Bad. Like his character, Mitte lived with cerebral palsy, and he used his platform to advocate for disability awareness and representation.

He served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, and he led the Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation, which supports arts, education and cultural opportunities in his hometown of Brownsville.

Brownsville honored Mitte after his death. At a celebration of life held on Oct. 16, his sister Lacianne Carriere said: “I loved RJ very much, and his legacy here is not going to end. It will continue with all his dreams for this place just as he would want.”

Parade reported on the inquest findings on Nov. 5.
