OREGON, Ohio — When Cardinal Stritch’s boys basketball team needed $750 just to play, two brothers refused to let the school’s final season die on the vine — and the community showed up.
The brothers launched a GoFundMe to cover the Cardinals’ league entry fee ahead of the school’s closure, and the campaign has raised $900, surpassing its $750 goal, 13abc reports.
With Cardinal Stritch shutting its doors, this will be the last-ever season of Cardinals basketball — and now it gets to happen.
It’s the kind of small-town Ohio ending you can’t script: two kids, one fundraiser, and a team that gets its goodbye on the court.
