TOLEDO, Ohio — A 6-year-old girl is on a ventilator with two broken legs and bruised lungs after a hit-and-run crash that pinned her under an ATV, her family says.

Mykayla Arrington was waiting to cross Upton Street near Marlow with Anthony Quinn, who runs her after-school program, when an ATV came toward them, police said. Investigators say a man on an ATV was heading north when a dark Ford SUV traveling south and turning left onto Marlow hit the ATV. The ATV traveled toward Mykayla and Quinn, who were in the road behind a postal truck, and pinned them. The Ford drove off.

Mykayla’s mother, Crystal Carter, said doctors were initially concerned about her daughter’s brain function, and surgeons have operated three times to save her right leg and foot. The 6-year-old has rods placed in her legs and a plate running from her thigh to her knee.

Carter said two women helped pull the ATV off her daughter. She is asking the driver to come forward, and anyone nearby to turn over video footage to police. Quinn is also in the ICU with a broken left leg and was scheduled for surgery Tuesday. Toledo police are investigating.
