Perrysburg could be headed for a major growth spurt — and not everyone is thrilled about it.

According to reporting from The Blade (Oct. 29), the city is considering a proposal that would shape future development along the I-75 corridor. City leaders frame it as planning for growth. But township residents hear something very different: a roadmap that could open the door to data-center construction and the annexation of township land into the city.

The fear isn’t coming out of nowhere. Data-center anxiety is sweeping northwest Ohio right now — tomorrow’s ballot includes Oregon’s Issue 25, a vote tied to a massive proposed data-center project, and Defiance has already moved to rein in data-center development. Perrysburg residents worry the I-75 plan puts their community next in line.

At the heart of the fight is a classic Perrysburg tension: township residents fiercely protect their autonomy and don’t want to be absorbed into the city’s growth agenda, while the city argues that managed development beats unmanaged sprawl. Both sides insist they’re the ones protecting Perrysburg’s future.

What happens next matters well beyond Perrysburg’s borders. The I-75 corridor is one of the fastest-changing stretches in the region, and whatever Perrysburg decides will set the tone for how the rest of northwest Ohio handles the data-center era.
