Twenty-five years to the day after it first hit shelves, Britney Spears’ self-titled album is back — and this time, the vault is actually open.

Britney (25th Anniversary Edition) is out today, Friday, Nov. 6, on Legacy Recordings/RCA Records — 23 songs, exactly 25 years after the original album’s U.S. release on Nov. 6, 2001. And the headliner isn’t the hits you already know. It’s the songs nobody has ever heard.

The crown jewel is “My Big Secret,” a dreamy, stripped-down R&B outtake from Britney’s sessions with The Neptunes — the duo behind “I’m a Slave 4 U.” Unlike the other vault tracks, “My Big Secret” was never leaked. Nobody outside the original studio sessions has heard it. Until today.

The set also makes three famous leaks official at last. “She’ll Never Be Me” — co-written by Britney with then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake — dropped as a preview on Oct. 9 and is her first newly released song in three years. “Am I a Sinner” and “When I Say So” round out the unreleased four, plus a studio version of “Right Now (Taste the Victory),” the song from her 2002 Pepsi campaign.

The rest of the bonus material digs into the era’s B-sides and international exclusives — “I Run Away,” “What It’s Like to Be Me,” “Before the Goodbye,” and “Intimidated” — alongside remixes of “Overprotected” and “Boys.”

The original Britney was the album where the teen-pop princess grew up in public: “I’m a Slave 4 U,” “Overprotected,” and “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” turned a 19-year-old into a pop-culture lightning rod. A vinyl edition of the anniversary set follows in January 2027.

For Toledo’s millennials, this one hits different. Britney was the soundtrack of middle-school dances, TRL afternoons, and burned CDs passed around homeroom — and 25 years later, there’s still a song on it nobody’s heard. That’s the kind of anniversary worth pressing play on.
