After the Chemical Leak and the False Nuclear Alarm, Lucas County Is Asking: Did You Actually Get the Warning?

Lucas County wants to know whether its emergency alerts are actually reaching you — and it’s asking residents to say so directly.

The Lucas County Emergency Management Agency and the Lucas County Commissioners have put out a short online survey asking residents how they receive emergency information and where the system needs to improve. The survey is live now at https://arcg.is/X0uWi1

The ask comes after two recent scares exposed gaps in how warnings go out. In October, a chemical leak in Toledo left residents reporting they smelled chemicals before any evacuation order arrived. Then on Nov. 5, a false nuclear alert told Monroe County residents to evacuate when there was no emergency at Fermi II.

The survey is the county’s chance to hear from the people the alerts are supposed to protect — what worked, what didn’t, and what never arrived at all.
