MC Tank Opens Claims Line After North Toledo Chemical Leak; City to Seek Recovery of Its Own Costs
NORTH TOLEDO, Ohio — Residents and businesses still counting the cost of the Oct. 20 chemical leak in North Toledo now have a direct line to file for compensation. MC Tank Transport has set up a claims reporting line — 888-271-0577 — 13abc reports, and the city of Toledo is listing the number on its official incident page.
The leak of glycidyl methacrylate from a 5,500-gallon tank at 1266 Progress Ave. forced roughly 1,000 residents to evacuate and more than 5,400 to shelter in place; about 57-60 people were treated at ProMedica hospitals.
A Toledo attorney told WTOL 11 that anyone seeking compensation should keep receipts for hotel stays, food, and missed work.
Meanwhile, Mayor Kapszukiewicz says the city is documenting its own emergency response costs and will press the company to cover them. The U.S. EPA ended air monitoring Oct. 26 after finding nothing above screening levels; Ohio EPA now leads the cleanup. The company issued an apology Oct. 27.
