Netflix isn’t done with Hawkins — or with what came before it. On Friday, Nov. 6 — Stranger Things Day, the anniversary of Will Byers’ disappearance in the show’s first season — Netflix announced a brand-new live-action prequel series: “Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure,” set to premiere in 2028.

The new series rewinds the clock decades before the original show. It’s set in 1955 — April 19, 1955, in Marion, Nevada, to be exact — and it predates not only the flagship series but also the stage play “Stranger Things: The First Shadow.” A teaser released with the announcement shows an abandoned bicycle and a glitching radio, with the tagline: “Before Hawkins, there was Marion.”

The story will explore an earlier chapter of the show’s mythology, including events connected to Henry Creel — the character who eventually becomes Vecna — before he encountered the otherworldly substance that gave him his powers. It features an entirely new cast; no casting has been announced yet.

The series is co-created by Matt and Ross Duffer, who created the original show, along with longtime “Stranger Things” writer Kate Trefry, who also penned “The First Shadow” and will serve as showrunner. Joe Wright — the BAFTA and Golden Globe-winning director behind “Pride & Prejudice” and “Atonement” — will direct the first three episodes, with production taking place in New Mexico.

“We’ve been dreaming of Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure for many years now, and to see it become a reality is surreal and exhilarating,” the Duffer Brothers said in Netflix’s announcement.

The original series wrapped up in late 2025, but the universe keeps expanding: “Other Worlds” is the fourth project in the franchise, joining the animated series “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85” and the stage play. For a generation that grew up in Hawkins, the wait until 2028 just got a lot more interesting.
