She gave us Kate McCallister, Delia Deetz, and the unforgettable Moira Rose — and now Catherine O’Hara is back on screen one last time.
Netflix’s new documentary “SCTV: The Greatest Show You’ve Never Heard Of,” released Friday, features previously unseen footage of O’Hara filmed just months before her death on Jan. 30 at age 71, following a brief illness. It is her final on-screen appearance.
The film, directed by Jason Hehir and produced by Jimmy Kimmel, reunites O’Hara with her SCTV family — Eugene Levy, Martin Short, Andrea Martin, and Dave Thomas — reminiscing about the Canadian sketch series where she got her start and won a Primetime Emmy.
The documentary closes with dedication cards for the SCTV cast members who have died: John Candy (1994), Harold Ramis (2014), Joe Flaherty (2024) — and then a final card: “Catherine O’Hara died in 2026. She was 71.”
Levy, her comedy partner of more than 50 years, said after her death: “Words seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today. I had the honor of knowing and working with the great Catherine O’Hara for over fifty years.”
From SCTV to “Beetlejuice,” “Home Alone,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” and her Emmy-winning turn as Moira Rose on “Schitt’s Creek,” O’Hara’s career spanned five decades. The documentary is both a celebration of the show that made her — and a farewell to the woman who made it sing.
