MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A pedestrian was killed Friday morning on southbound Interstate 75 near Laplaisance Road in Monroe County, and Michigan State Police closed the freeway for hours while troopers investigated the fatal crash.

Michigan State Police are investigating the crash, which involved a vehicle and a pedestrian on southbound I-75 near Laplaisance Road in Monroe Township, according to Monroe News. The crash happened Friday morning, Nov. 6, 2026.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Monroe Post were on the scene Friday morning, the MSP First District said in a post on X at 9:40 a.m. Southbound I-75 was closed between Elm Road and Laplaisance Road while troopers investigated, according to the post, as reported by Monroe News.

As of the Monroe News report, authorities had not released the identity of the pedestrian, details about the vehicle involved, or the cause of the crash. “Further information was not immediately available,” the report said. The investigation is ongoing.

What is not yet known is how the pedestrian came to be on the freeway. State police have not released that information, and ToledoBuzz will not speculate about it while the investigation continues.

The fatal pedestrian crash is a separate incident from a crash Thursday night on I-75 involving suspects fleeing after a reported theft at Meijer. That incident happened near South Otter Creek Road and involved fleeing suspects, not a pedestrian struck on the freeway near Laplaisance Road.

ToledoBuzz will update this story as Michigan State Police release additional information.
