11 Families Sue Former Toledo Children’s Doctor Accused of Photographing Kids
TOLEDO — Eleven families have sued Dr. Bryan Shanley Sack, former chief of pediatric urology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital-Toledo, and the hospital itself, alleging he photographed their children during medical appointments.
The allegations in the lawsuit are untested in court, and Sack has not been convicted of the conduct the families allege.
The suit, filed Wednesday, Nov. 4, in federal court in Detroit, covers 13 children; six of the families are from the Toledo area.
The families allege the hospital failed to properly supervise Sack, including failing to require and enforce a chaperone during exams.
Sack worked about 18 months at the Toledo office. The suit seeks to cover every child he saw there — an estimated 1,000 to 2,500 children.
Sack was arraigned Feb. 21 on state charges and indicted by a federal grand jury in May on two child-pornography counts. He has pleaded not guilty. Nationwide fired him four days after his arraignment.
A separate report says his Dropbox account held more than 27,000 files of children.
